Tips for Practicing Your Golf Game at Home

Sports training is an intense task. The gentle balance between technique, physicality, proper equipment, and love of the game makes for the perfect athlete. While the average person might perceive golf as a quiet, slow sport played by the elderly, the game actually puts a lot of emphasis on technique, and the only real way to develop technique is to practice your swings.
This, of course, means getting out onto the golf range, which isn’t always possible, depending on weather and transportation. Fortunately, with a few training aids, including swing trainers and putting greens, you can practice your swing in the comfort of your own home.
Here are a few tips for practicing your golf game at home.
Install a Putting Green
This is probably the easiest way to practice your putting technique all year round. Use Astroturf or fake grass, either of which can easily be set up in your backyard, on your patio, or in your living room.
Putting is half the game, and even professionals have trouble when they’re on the green. Having the putting green in your home will help you fine-tune your technique and ensure your shots are precise when you’re in an actual game.
Wiffle Balls
Golf wiffle balls are very cheap but are invaluable to the at-home trainer. You can hit them as hard as you want, but they won’t go very far. You won’t get a very accurate feel for the weight of a golf ball, but you can still establish the curve of the ball and adjust your swing appropriately. You won’t have to worry about broken windows or unfortunate injuries.
Install a Net
Golf nets are fairly inexpensive and available at just about any sporting goods store. You might even be able to make one yourself with the right resources. Golf nets can very easily be set up in your backyard, garage, or even inside your home.
With a golf net, you can keep your form, retain your strength, and practice your grip and set up position. If you add targets to the net, you can also work on your aim.
Use a Mirror
Practice your swing while standing in front of a mirror. Make note of your stance and your set up position. Have a friend place masking tape on the mirror indicating spine angle, hip flex, and knee flex. Throughout the off-season, set up in front of the mirror and make sure your stance lines up with the masking tape every time.
